Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center Chiang Mai: 2024 Travel Guide

Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center in Chiang Mai is a modern Western-style shopping center located in the Nimman neighborhood, just a few minutes from the Old Town.

While it’s not a must-visit destination for travelers who only have a couple of days in Chiang Mai, it’s a great place to go if you need to replenish your wardrobe, buy new cosmetics, see a movie, or buy some food you miss from back home in the Rimping market.

My experience living within walking distance of Maya Chiang Mai for several months gave me a greater appreciation of how convenient it is to have a large center with all the amenities close by – so easy to grab something when you need it!

At Maya, I saw the Barbie movie in a fancy movie theater for just a few bucks, ate lunch several times in the food court, bought international foods at the well-stocked Rimping market, and purchased new skincare products at Eve and Boy (kind of similar to Sephora).

Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center is great for shopping – so grab your credit card and let’s go!

🤩 My favorite way to get to know a new city is by taking a food tour. This Northern Thai Food Tour will change your life. You’ll try hidden restaurants, street stalls, and local markets that most tourists never find and be transported in an iconic red rod daeng truck with a small group of hungry travelers. Come hungry because you’ll be trying more than 15 different dishes!

How to Get to Maya Chiang Mai

Red songthaew (public bus that looks like a truck) and scooter rider in Chiang, Mai Thailand.
You’ll see these red songthaews all over Chiang Mai – this is how locals get around Chiang Mai, and you can too!

By Foot / Bike

If you’re living in/near the Nimman neighborhood of Chiang Mai, you can walk to Maya Shopping Mall! And if you are in the Old Town, and comfortable biking in traffic, the bike ride is pretty easy, too.

I’ve done both, although I usually ride my scooter instead since the heat in Chiang Mai can be brutal. The traffic lights at the Maya Mall intersection take forever to change, though, so it’s usually faster to walk there from Nimman.

Chiang Mai has its own bike-share service called Anywheel – you’ll see the green bikes parked around time, waiting for you to rent one!

Green bikes from the Chiang Mai bikeshare service parked outside Central Festival Mall in Chiang Mai.

By Motorbike or Car

If you have a scooter or car, you can easily drive to Maya.

Parking: There is plenty of free parking for cars and motorbikes in the Chiang Mai Maya Mall parking garage. There are parking attendants who will direct you to the right part of the garage depending on what vehicle you’re arriving in.

👉 I use SafetyWing, which covers my medical coverage in the event of a motorbike accident, as long as I am appropriately licensed for the area I’m driving in (in Thailand, that’s an International Driver’s Permit validated for motorcycles) and am wearing proper safety gear such as a helmet.

Grab Taxi

If you’re not comfortable renting a car or scooter, then use the Grab app to order a taxi – it’s super easy.

This will cost you about 50 baht ($1.40) for a Grab moto-taxi or 100 baht ($2.80 USD) for a Grab taxi from the old town.

Songthaew

Get around Chiang Mai in style with these vibrant red trucks that serve as the city’s quasi-public transportation system.

They’re everywhere and user-friendly. While the first time may feel intimidating, it just gets easier from there!

Just find a corner, raise your hand, and hop on board, just like hailing a taxi in the streets of New York. If a full one passes by, no worries, the next one will be along shortly.

Once inside, let the driver know your destination and enjoy the ride.

Prices range from 30 to 100 baht based on distance. When you’re ready to disembark, simply knock on the window or ring the bell.

👉 Pro Tip: I use this site to look up train, bus, and ferry routes.

Maya Chiang Mai Shops List

The Maya Lifestyle Shopping Centre has 6 floors, starting with the basement and going up to the sixth floor. It’s the perfect place to get your steps in during the rainy season!

There are touchscreen kiosks located around the mall to help you find where you want to go, and there’s an Information Desk right by the main entrance.

Here’s the full Maya Chiang Mai shop directory – it’s very searchable.

Here’s a floor-by-floor overview (see the directory for a full list):

  • Basement (B1): FOOD, Food Court, Rimping Market and Wine Shop, Bakeries, and ATM machines.
  • Ground (G): CLOTHES AND COSMETICS, American Eagle, Ecco, H&M, Birkenstock, Keds, L’Oreal Paris, Lacoste, Mango, Pandora, Perfume Shop, Seiko, Starbucks, The Face Shop, and more.

👉 My pick for the best hostel in Chiang Mai is Hostel Lullaby. I stayed here multiple times when I was backpacking Thailand. It’s a quiet hostel that attracts more mature backpackers and is in a great location with super comfortable beds with curtains and rooms with A/C. I made so many friends who I traveled with all over Northern Thailand at the complimentary breakfast.

Maya Mall Chiang Mai Food

The Duke's restaurant in Chiang Mai's Maya Mall.

Rimping Market

It’s an expensive market, but I love it! The produce is always high-quality (although I try to get my produce from the fruit market where locals shop). If you’re looking for international foods like cheese, pasta, or chocolate, Rimping is the place most likely to have it.

Maya Mall Food Courts

You’ll find two food courts in Central Chiang Mai: on the basement level and on the 4th floor.

I’ve eaten in both multiple times. On the 4th floor, you have to pre-pay at the cashier, putting money on a card, before you visit the vendors. You can get back any extra money at the end.

My favorite dishes to eat at Maya shopping mall Chiang Mai are gyoza, fresh fruit smoothies, papaya salad, and pad thai.

Restaurants in Maya Chiang Mai Mall

My friends and I ordered pizza delivery from The Duke’s in Maya Mall. They reminded me of pizza delivery that you get in the US, like a Domino’s or Papa John’s.

There are several other restaurants worth checking out if you’re looking for a sit-down meal – although the food courts are more fun and a lot cheaper.

👩‍🍳 My pick for the best cooking class in Chiang Mai is Benny’s Home Cooking course with a small class size, robust menu, and a near-perfect 5-star rating!

Maya Mall Movie Theater: SFX Cinema Maya Chiang Mai

Outside of the First Class theater at the movie theater in Maya Mall in Chiang Mai.

Located on the 5th floor of Maya Mall, the SFX Cinema Maya is one of the best movie theaters in Chiang Mai. There are 10 cinemas including a first-class theater.

This is where I saw the Barbie movie the week it came out – just a few bucks and really comfortable seats in a half-empty theater!

My friends rave about the First Class Cinema which is a little pricier at 500 baht ($15 USD) but includes food and drink.

Movies play 10:30AM – 10PM every day. Check movie times here.

👉 My pick for the best Chiang Mai temple tour is this City Tour of Viewpoints, Wat Doi Suthep, Wat Chedi Luang, and Wat Pha Lat with a near-perfect 5-Star Rating.

Maya Chiang Mai Gym

Entrance to the fitness gym located in Chiang Mai Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center.

I’ve met several expats in Chiang Mai who go to the Maxx Professional Fitness gym located on the 5th floor of the Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center.

The gym is open daily from 8AM to 10PM.

When I was there, they were having a sale – a 1-month membership for 1,699 baht ($47.71 USD). The normal price is 2,999 baht ($84 USD).

Other Malls in Chiang Mai

Sign on the main road outside of Central Festival advertising some popular stores.

While Central Festival Chiang Mai is the biggest shopping mall in Chiang Mai, it’s not necessarily the most convenient one if you’re staying in the Old Town or Nimman neighborhoods.

  • One Nimman is a new – but small – mall located in the Nimman neighborhood of Chiang Mai. It’s really beautiful. The food court is small, but on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays One Nimman hosts a big White Market, with tons of vendors and live music. There’s also a fun Latin bar called Pura Vida, located upstairs.
  • Central Chiang Mai Airport aka Central Plaza is a 5-floor shopping mall located near the Chiang Mai airport. It’s the oldest shopping mall in Chiang Mai, but you’ll find a lot of the same big brands here that you’ll find at the other centers.

🚙 I recommend using Discover Cars to compare costs and get the best deal.

Where to Stay in Chiang Mai

If you’re coming to Chiang Mai for the first time, or only have a few days, I recommend you stay in the Old City. Nimman is my preferred neighborhood for longer stays and digital nomads. There are several other Chiang Mai neighborhoods worth considering, too!

Old City Neighborhood

Budget: Hostel Lullaby – where I stayed as a backpacker, and I loved the comfy beds and social breakfasts.

Mid-range: POR Thapae Gate – the complimentary bikes and outdoor swimming pool are a plus.

Luxury: The Inside House – luxurious suites with private pools, first-class service, and complimentary afternoon tea.

Nimmanhaemin (Nimman) Neighborhood

Budget: Box Hostel n Cafe – great backpacker hostel in a convenient location.

Mid-range: U Nimman – great value, prime Nimman location, and a rooftop pool!

Luxury: Akyra Manor – luxurious hotel with rooftop infinity pool, top-rated Italian restaurant, and located in the heart of Nimman.

👉 My top pick for a hotel in Chiang Mai is POR Thapae Gate because it’s in the perfect location and has a great breakfast! The staff here is amazing, and you’ll love having a relaxing place to come home to after a full day of exploring.

👉 My pick for the best Chiang Mai temple tour is this City Tour of Viewpoints, Wat Doi Suthep, Wat Chedi Luang, and Wat Pha Lat with a near-perfect 5-Star Rating.

My go-to for Thailand hotels is Booking.com. For hostels, I use HostelWorld. Or get free accommodations with Trusted Housesitters!

✈️ What’s the best site to book Thailand flights?

For finding cheap Thailand flights, I recommend CheapOAir.
